What's your style?

So, I've been watching past seasons of Project Runway on Bravo and this topic seems to come up a bunch. It's the question of personal style. Do you have a signature style? Hmmmm...is styleless a style? I don't know, I used to be much more of a H.M. kind of a girl premotherhood. Now I can barely be bothered to run a comb through my hair or wear something other than an all purpose tshirt. When I think about it, my style is probably casual, which makes a lot of sense. My life is casual, my home is casual. I'm not fussy. I'm not frilly. I'm not about the bling. Let's face it, if I could wear a tshirt, shorts and flip flops all day every day that would be my idea of bliss. Yet, part of me dreams of being more stylish. The only thing that seems to be holding me back is that it seems like an awful lot of work. I mean just the time involved, beejeez who has time to put on makeup every day. But, I think I should do a little experiment. I will put on makeup, do "something" with my hair and dress in something other than one of my many tshirts for 30 days. I want to know a couple things. First, can I actually do it? Secondly, will it make me feel differently (I've heard that it will)? Thirdly, will my new stylish sensibility carry over into other aspect of my life? Will my cooking become more refined, my home more photo shoot ready? Will my knitting and sewing skills reach new heights? Will I become a yarn snob? Bye bye acrylics, hello cashmere! We shall see. I'll report back to you and let you know just how stylish I've become.

Is rumpled a style?

I'm anxious to see what your experiment tells you. I'm about to become a SAHM and not having to dress for the office (ironed shirt and khaki's) may make my style more I-don't-care. I really dig my flip-flops.

I hope my knitting and sewing go to the next level!

That sounds like so much fun! I have to say from my own experience when I take the time to "put myself together" it does make a difference. If I happen to catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror as I walk by one I think "Hey, she looks kinda cute today" which is much better than "eeww...she looks like a frumpy housewife!" I can't wait to hear how your experiment goes.

I don't feel like I have a style. I aim to look neat and presentable in public. Every so often, I try to put a "look" together but I don't really have a signature look. I think if I had a career that took me out of the house everyday and in front of people everyday, I'd be more inclined to try to develop one though. Right now, the work I do doesn't really call for it. Nonetheless, I'm trying these days to punch it up a little. I am going to try to get my eyebrows done consistently and put on some brow pencil, try to use lip gloss instead of plain jane lip balm, keep my hair cut tight, and change my jewelry (I just bought a whole load of cheap, costume type jewelry--nothing too wild but that adds a little flavor). I tried to do foundation but that was way too much work. Like you, I would like to be more stylish but I don't have the will to put that much work into it right now . . . maybe when the kids are older.

Anywho . . .lol, I don't think getting a little more style will change your cooking or knitting (unless you start to knit some funky fresh and stylish things for yourself) but it definitely is a good pick up and makes you feel a lot better. Especially if you catch the hubby's eye (or the cute guy at the grocery store) a little more than usual. :)
